Important 2021 Deadlines on ACA 6055 and 6056 Reporting for RHS

As a reminder, employers who offer VantageCare Retirement Health Savings (RHS) plans need to comply with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) Sections 6055 and 6056 Informational Reporting requirement. This means that annually, employers should file certain information on RHS participants with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and provide RHS participants with specific information on their accounts.

Under the ACA, applicable large employers (ALEs), generally defined as employers who employ an average of 50 or more full-time employees, are required to offer health benefits to their full-time employees. As previously communicated in ICMA-RC’s RHS Informational Update, employers are required to report on the health coverage offered in order for the IRS to verify that ACA obligations are met.

Plan sponsors must file the information for the preceding calendar year by March 31, 2021, if filing electronically, and by March 1, 2021, if filing by paper. For 2020 reporting, the annual deadline for providing statements to benefit eligible participants is extended from Jan. 31 to March 2, 2021.

ICMA-RC makes available a tool within EZLink to help RHS plan sponsors meet their annual ACA 6055 and 6056 Informational Reporting requirements.
