Employer Bulletin: Your plan administration resource

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

MissionSquare Retirement makes it a priority to safeguard participants’ accounts. That’s why throughout National Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October, we’ll reinforce to participants best practices they can apply to help protect their identity and keep their information safe.

While fraud prevention is a year-round endeavor, now’s a great time to promote good cyber practices to help protect against potential threats.

Among the ways you can continue to help us protect participants’ privacy are:

  • Don’t send forms or other documents with participants’ Personally Identifiable Information (PII), such as Social Security numbers, via email. Transactions such as plan enrollments, indicative data changes, and terminations can be performed electronically within our plan administration portal, after logging in. Access these enrollment resources.
  • If some identifier is needed, only use the last four digits of a participant’s Social Security number when sending emails and correspondence to MissionSquare.
  • Log into our plan administration portal, when it’s necessary to provide us with a participant’s full Social Security number.

We recently shared with participants easy ways to make it more difficult for identity thieves to break into their accounts with tips on creating strong and memorable passwords. Encourage your employees to implement these tips to ensure their business and personal accounts are kept safe.

We’ll continue to educate participants about best practices to help protect their accounts through communications such as statement messaging and the participant newsletter and share with them MissionSquare’s security guarantee.
