Research: State and Local Government Jurisdictions Awarded Grants for Employee Financial Wellness Programs

April is National Financial Literacy Month, which presents a great opportunity for us to highlight a collaborative thought leadership effort among the Center for State and Local Government Excellence at ICMA-RC (SLGE at ICMA-RC), the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR), and the National Association of State Treasurers (NAST). Through this collaboration, 24 state and local government jurisdictions have been awarded grants to establish or improve employee financial wellness programs.

In addition to the grants, these partners are cooperating on the following efforts:

  • Developing research and briefing materials to help state and local governments establish their own financial literacy programs
  • Creating a case study learning center and materials that detail the varied approaches of state and local governments’ past or potential financial wellness programs for employees and residents
  • Hosting conversations and meetings at NAST and IPMA-HR conferences to bring together public leaders and experts to discuss how financial wellness programs can be implemented by state and local governments
  • Coordinating with a wider group of financial wellness stakeholders to share best practices and plan future collaborations

In addition to this effort, ICMA-RC highlighted National Financial Literacy Month throughout April, providing participants with tools and resources to assist them in achieving financial health.
