Research: Trends of State and Local Workforces to Watch in 2021, New Webinar on Employee Work Sentiment

The Center for State and Local Government Excellence (SLGE) shared recent research that offers insights into the strategies and tactics to monitor as governments of all sizes strive to attract and retain talented state and local employees.

SLGE presents six trends to watch in 2021:

  1. Embracing a holistic approach to employee well-being
  2. Strengthening the post-COVID-19 workplace
  3. Implementing innovative staffing practices and collaborative approaches
  4. Focusing on financial wellness
  5. Expanding workforce management tools
  6. Developing a diverse and inclusive workforce

When it comes to effective management and development of a talented and diverse state and local government workforce, there is much more to be discovered. For more details, access the article in its entirety at the SLGE website. You can also listen to SLGE Senior Research Associate Gerald Young's recent interview with Federal News Network.

For more research from SLGE, read about a new national poll of state and local employees’ views on finances and employment. "This research is critical as those who serve their communities face the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic," said Orlando Cruz, Senior Vice President, ICMA-RC. "As we look ahead, there are opportunities to work closely with those on the front lines to address these issues, both for the day-to-day challenges faced and as they work to save for their financial goals."

We also invite you to register for our webinar that includes an in-depth discussion on this topic. The webinar takes place on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time. Speakers will discuss state and local employees’ perceptions on finances and the short- and medium-term employment outlook due to COVID-19.

Founded in 2007 with financial support from ICMA-RC, SLGE has published more than 80 research reports on such topics as pension funding, health benefits, and compensation and workforce trends in state and local governments.
