2014 Award Recipients

Erin Abriel, of New York, is pursuing a degree in early childhood education from State University of New York. Erin would like to turn her fascination with the medical field into an opportunity to change children’s lives by becoming a neonatologist. Erin’s father, Theodore J. Abriel, died in the line of duty while serving the Albany Fire Department in New York.

Thomas Baik, of Connecticut, is currently in his third year at Iona College where he is pursuing a degree in mass communications, with a focus on television and video. Thomas is the founding member of Iona College’s comedy improvisational club. Thomas's father, Michael Baik, died in the line of duty while serving the City of Bridgeport Fire Department in Connecticut.

Lindsey Bohach, of Nevada, is working toward a bachelors of science degree in nursing from the Roseman University of Health Sciences. Lindsey’s father, John Bohach, died in the line of duty while serving the Reno Police Department in Nevada.

Kalee Brown, of Kansas, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and English from the University of Kansas. Kalee hopes to teach high school English. Kalee’s father, Craig D. Brown, died in the line of duty while serving the Parsons Fire Department in Kansas.

Devin Bryant, of Utah, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in fire science at the University of Utah. Devin hopes to become a firefighter and attend the FBI Academy. Devin has also completed his EMT certification. Devin’s mother, Kendall Bryant, died in the line of duty while serving the Layton City Fire Department in Utah.

Shauna Cahill, of Canton, Massachusetts, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a dual major in fine arts and business management from the University of Massachusetts. Shauna plans to use her degree to become the director of an art center, gallery, or museum. Shauna’s father, Paul J. Cahill, died in the line of duty while serving the Boston Fire Department.

Amanda Carmichael, of Portland, Oregon, is pursuing a master’s degree in Counseling from Marylhurst University. Amanda aspires to become a counselor and help children and adults who are dealing with the loss of a loved one. Amanda’s father, Ronald L. Carmichael, died in the line of duty while serving the City of Mosheim in Tennessee.

Allison Chapin, of Tennessee, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Tennessee. After graduating from college, Allison hopes to become a wedding planner. Allison’s father, James Chapin, died in the line of duty while serving the Chattanooga City Police Department in Tennessee.

Samantha Cole, of Maine, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Southern Maine. Samantha hopes to change the lives of children as an a teacher. Samantha’s mother, Debra Cole, died in the line of duty while serving the West End South Portland Fire Department in Maine.

Morgan Cox, of Kansas, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Kansas. Morgan is the social chairman of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and volunteers at Natural Ties, where she works with adults with developmental disabilities. Morgan’s father, Anthony Cox, died in the line of duty while serving the Topeka Fire Department in Kansas.

Edward Dundon, of Ledgewood, New Jersey, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Montclair State University. Edward plans to use his degree to achieve employment with the New Jersey State Police. Edward’s father, Gary Dundon, died in the line of duty while serving the Warren County Prosecutors.

Brendan Fahey, of New York, is studying chemical engineering at the University of Delaware. Brendan has worked as a project management intern for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at the World Trade Center construction site. Brendan’s father, Brian Fahey, died in the line of duty while serving the Fire Department of New York.

Kathleen Fouts, of Illinois, is pursuing a master’s degree in Nursing from the Chamberlain College of Nursing. Kathleen is the mother of two small children. Kathleen’s husband, Frank Fouts, died in the line of duty while serving the Kankakee Fire Department in Illinois.

Logan Gilbert, of Emporia, Virginia, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Radford University. After graduating, Logan plans to continue her academic career and achieve a doctorate in nursing so she can help patients. Logan’s father, James Gilbert, died in the line of duty while serving the City of Norfolk Police Department.

Hanna Hone, of Arizona, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology from California State University – Channel Islands. Hanna aspires to become a large animal veterinarian and has an interest in advocating for neglected and abandoned animals. Hanna’s father, Jack Lee Hone, died in the line of duty while serving the Santa Monica Fire Department in California.

Roxxi Jaxx, of Michigan, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in musical theater from the University of Tampa. Roxxi has participated in two main stage productions, became an assistant director, and a costume designer, all while maintaining a 3.6 GPA. Roxxi’s father, Jerry Philpot, died in the line of duty while serving the Detroit Police Department in Michigan.

Alexis Keefe, of Wyalusing, Pennsylvania is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business from Bentley University. Alexis hopes to one day start her own business. Alexis’s father, Bret Keefe, died in the line of duty while serving the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Madilynn Kendricks, of Texas, is pursuing a degree from Meredith College. Madilynn completed her first semester of college with a 4.0 GPA and she joined the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. Madilynn’s father, Rodney Kendricks, died in the line of duty while serving the Lubbock Police Department in Texas.

Joshua Lerma, of Tennessee, is pursuing a degree in kinesiology from the University of Arkansas. Joshua has decided to follow in his mother’s footsteps and become a pharmacist. Joshua’s father, Javier Lerma, died in the line of duty while serving the City of Memphis Fire Service in Tennessee.

Meredith Lerma, of Tennessee, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Tennessee. After graduating from college, Meredith plans to take a year off to serve in the Peace Corps. Meredith’s father, Javier Lerma, died in the line of duty while serving the City of Memphis Fire Service in Tennessee.

Megan Rankin, of Moorpark, California, will be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology from either the University of Oregon or the University of Colorado. After graduating, Megan plans to continue her academic career to specialize in Family and Marriage Counseling. Megan’s father, Steven Rankin, died in the line of duty while serving the Culver City Fire Department.

Lucas Reiner, of California, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting at Loyola Marymount University. Throughout high school, Lucas served as the editor for the school newspaper and was active in Student Government. Lucas’s father, Eric Reiner, died in the line of duty while serving the Los Angeles City Fire Department in California.

Marissa Reiner, of California, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Dominican University. Marissa wants to help others through her future career as a registered nurse. Marissa’s father, Eric Reiner, died in the line of duty while serving the City of Los Angeles Fire Department in California.

Cidney Robinson, of Chicago, Illinois, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in pre-medicine with an emphasis in physical therapy from Utah State University. Cidney aspires to become a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and open her own medicine practice. Cidney’s father, Kevin  Robinson died in the line of duty while serving the Chicago Police Department.

Karley Simmons, of Silverton, Idaho, is pursuing a certificate in cosmetology from either Tony & Guy or North Idaho College. Karley’s father, Gregory Simmons, died in the line of duty while serving the Eastland Volunteer Fire Department in Texas.

Kateland Simmons, of Silverton, Idaho, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology from Concordia University. Kateland aspires to become a pharmaceutical scientist to complete research on new antibiotics to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Kateland’s father, Gregory Simmons, died in the line of duty while serving the Eastland Volunteer Fire Department in Texas.

Dakota Son, of Kentucky, is pursuing a degree in nursing at Madisonville Community College. Dakota is very passionate about her career choice, nursing. Dakota’s stepfather, Don Lam, died in the line of duty while serving the Kentucky Division of Forestry.

Renald Stephens, of Georgia, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in architectural drafting technology from ITT Technical Institute. Renald works full time while going to school and enjoys spending time with his family. Renald’s father, Randy Stephens, died in the line of duty while serving in the U.S. Marshals Service.

Kaitlin Tarver, of Alaska, is working toward a bachelor’s degree in health sciences from North Arizona University. Kaitlin is an accomplished athlete whose dedication and strength have allowed her to overcome physical limitations. Kaitlin’s father, Bret Tarver, died in the line of duty while serving the Phoenix Fire Department in Arizona.

Elizabeth Tullis, of Pensacola, Florida, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Liberty University. After graduating, Elizabeth plans to continue her academic career and specialize in ER and Trauma with the hopes of becoming a flight nurse. Elizabeth’s father, George Rehak, died in the line of duty while serving the City of Hampton in Virginia.
