2016 Award Recipients

Erin Abriel, of New York, is working towards earning a degree in early childhood education with a concentration in English. One day, she would like to work in an elementary school or daycare so that she can help shape the lives and educational paths of young students. Erin’s father, Theodore Abriel, died in the line of duty while serving the Albany Fire Department.

Georgia Androy

Georgia Androy, of Iowa, plans to attend Iowa State University in the fall of 2016. Georgia hopes to study abroad one day while she pursues a degree in animal science. Georgia's father, Gilbert Androy, died in the line of duty while serving the Fremont County Sheriff's Department in Iowa.

Whitney Androy, of Iowa, plans to pursue a master’s degree in psychology with a focus on forensics. Whitney is the first in her immediate family to earn a college degree and she is looking forward to continuing her education. Whitney’s father, Gilbert Androy, died in the line of duty while serving the Fremont County Sheriff's Department in Iowa.

Malloree Arn

Malloree Arn, of Missouri, plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in nursing from Missouri Western State University. She also plans to minor in Spanish so that she can help immigrant patients. Malloree's father, Bradley Arn, died in the line of duty while serving the St. Joseph Missouri Police Department.

Molleigh Arn

Molleigh Arn, of Missouri, plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in elementary education with a concentration in special education from Missouri Western State University. Molleigh is a Special Olympics basketball coach and serves as the Vice President of her sorority. Molleigh's father, Bradley Arn, died in the line of duty while serving the St. Joseph Missouri Police Departmen.

Margaret Baik, of Connecticut, plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Iona College. She hopes to use her degree to counsel and guide young people as they learn how to cope with personal tragedy or difficult and challenging experiences. Margaret’s father, Michael Baik, died in the line of duty while serving the Bridgeport Fire Department in Connecticut.

Tyler Bitting, of Iowa, plans to pursue an engineering degree in science and would like to continue his studies and eventually obtain a master's degree in industrial engineering. Not only is Tyler an accomplished athlete, participating in football, wrestling, track, and baseball, he also holds a 3.9 GPA. Tyler’s father, Jason Bitting, died in the line of duty while serving the Keokuk Fire Department in Iowa.

Devin Bryant, of Utah, is a recent graduate of the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy. He is working to advance his knowledge and skills to better serve his community as a certified firefighter and EMT. Devin’s father, Kendall Bryant, died in the line of duty while serving the Layton City Fire Department in Utah.

Nicholas Chapin, of Tennessee, plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He is involved in his church youth group and enjoys being active in the community. Nicolas’ father, James Timothy Chapin, died in the line of duty while serving the Chattanooga Police Department.

Baylee Cox, of Kansas, is working towards a double major in international business and marketing with a minor in Spanish from Wichita State University. Baylee will have the opportunity to study abroad in Spain, as she continues to work towards earning a Translator Certificate in Spanish. Baylee’s father, Anthony Cox, died in the line of duty while serving the Topeka Fire Department in Kansas.

Jonathan DeWolf, of New Hampshire, is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering and hopes to become a research engineer specializing in wind tunnel experiments, or a wind tunnel aerodynamicist. Jonathan’s father, Christopher DeWolf, died in the line of duty while serving the Newington Fire Department in New Hampshire.

Edward Dundon

Edward Dundon, of New Jersey, is entering his third year at Montclair State University where he is working toward a bachelor's degree in psychology. After graduation Edward hopes to work in law enforcement, specifically with a K9 unit before moving on to the FBI or CIA. Edward's father, Gary Dundon, died in the line of duty while serving the Warren County Prosecutor's Office in New Jersey.

Marquis Green, of Georgia, plans to obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Marquis wants to set a good example for his brothers, like his father did, and continue his education. Marquis’ father, Terrance Avery Green, died in the line of duty while serving the Fulton County Police Department.

Rachel Hain, of Minnesota, is pursuing a double major in communication studies and sociology/anthropology from Gustavus Adolphus College. In the future, Rachel is interested in working in healthcare consulting or something similar. Rachel’s father, Ramon Hain, died in the line of duty while serving the St. Paul Fire Department in Minnesota.

Sara Hain, of Minnesota, plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business technology from Stevens Institute of Technology. Sara is a student athlete, with a 3.9 GPA. Sara’s father, Ramon Hain, died in the line of duty while serving the St. Paul Fire Department in Minnesota.

Dakota Heims

Dakota Heims, of Indiana, will be a freshman at Purdue University and plans to major in interior design and minor in business. Dakota hopes to own an interior design company one day. Dakota’s father, Shadron Bassett died in the line of duty while serving the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department in Indiana.

Emily Massey, of California, plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree from Loyola Marymount University. Emily recently graduated with a 3.80 and her goal is to be a college history teacher and archeologist. Emily’s father, Curtis Massey, died in the line of duty while serving the Culver City Police Department.

Alannah McMaster, of Oregon, is pursuing an Associate’s degree in nursing with the goal of applying for the nursing/BSN program in the future. Her goal is to become a registered neonatal nurse at Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center. Alannah’s father, Robert Bernie McMaster, died in the line of duty while serving the Warrenton Police Department.

Danielle Nichols

Danielle Nichols, of Iowa, plans to attend Simpson College in the fall to pursue her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Her goal is to become a fifth grade teacher. Danielle’s father, Daniel Nichols, died in the line of duty while serving the Des Moines Fire Department in Iowa.

Jennifer Nichols

Jennifer Nichols, of Iowa, is working toward an associate's degree at Ellsworth Community College. Afterwards, she plans to transfer to a four-year institution to obtain a bachelor’s degree in early elementary education. Jennifer’s father, Daniel Nichols, died in the line of duty while serving the Des Moines Fire Department in Iowa.

Katherine Nichols

Katherine Nichols, of Iowa, is a sophomore at Baylor University where she is pursuing a business degree. Katherine hopes to have an international tax career working for a global organization upon graduation. Katherine’s father, Daniel Nichols, died in the line of duty while serving the Des Moines Fire Department in Iowa.

Nicole Olander, of Michigan, plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in Spanish from Michigan State University. Her personal goal is to travel the world and hopes to someday have a career as a translator. Nicole’s father, Steven Olander, died in the line of duty while serving the Detroit Fire Department.

Brandon One Feather, of Minnesota, is working towards completing his degree in biochemistry from the University of Minnesota. He has also secured a position working for the School of Medicine in the Endocrinology Department. Brandon’s father, Kelmel H. One Feather, died in the line of duty while serving for the OST Public Safety Department.

Donna Reed, of Florida, plans to pursue a degree in child care psychology. Donna volunteers at local blood drives and at fire department functions. Donna’s father, Brian Reed, died in the line of duty while serving the West Manatee Fire and Rescue Department in Florida.

Cidney Robinson

Cidney Robinson, of Illinois, is a junior at Loyola University in Chicago. She hopes to graduate with a bachelor’s degree and MBA in Health Systems Management and later pursue a graduate degree in public health. Cidney’s father, Kevin Robinson, died in the line of duty while serving the Chicago Police Department.

Kyle Robinson, of Illinois, plans to pursue a music degree from Columbia College of Chicago. Kyle’s dream is to open music studios around the world and help others express themselves through music. Kyle’s father, Kevin Robinson, died in the line of duty while serving the Chicago Police Department.

Kayla Ryan, of New York, is working towards a bachelor’s degree in English. She hopes to have a career as a publisher after completing her degree from Marymount Manhattan College. Kayla’s father, Robert Ryan, died in the line of duty while serving the Fire Department of New York.

Janet Santner, of Florida, is working towards a degree in early childhood education from Northwest Florida State College. Janet is an elected official serving as the Fire Commissioner with the North Bay Fire Rescue District. Janet’s husband, Thomas Santner, died in the line of duty while serving the North Bay Fire Department in Florida.

Tessa Santner, of Florida, plans to pursue a degree in Asian Language and Culture from Florida State University. Tessa serves as Vice President of the Art Club and has been a teacher's assistant for the Chinese after school program for elementary students. Tessa’s father, Thomas Santner, died in the line of duty while serving the North Bay Fire Department in Florida.

Gregory Scannell

Gregory Scannell, of Massachusetts, plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of New Hampshire. In the future, he hopes to use his degree to develop technology to help those with disabilities. Gregory’s father, William Scannell, died in the line of duty while serving the Dedham Police Department in Massachusetts.

Cheryl Schultz, of California, is working towards a law degree from Concord Law School. Cheryl continues to uphold a 4.0 GPA. Cheryl’s husband, Kevin Schultz, died in the line of duty while serving the Pojoaque Police Department in New Mexico.

Carrie Simmons

Carrie Simmons, of Idaho, is working towards an associate’s degree from North Idaho College. She has been on the Dean’s List since she began school and currently holds a 4.0 GPA. Carrie’s husband, Greg Simmons, died in the line of duty while serving the Eastland Fire Department in Texas.

Kateland Simmons

Kateland Simmons, of Idaho, plans to pursue a master’s degree in cellular and molecular medicine, specialization in bioinformatics from the University of Ottawa. Kateland volunteers with Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) and the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Synthetic Biology Team. Kateland's father, Gregory Simmons, died in the line of duty while serving the Eastland Fire Department in Texas.

Kyle Strube, of Illinois, after receiving his associate's degree in biological science this past fall, decided to pursue a degree in Fire Science from Western Illinois University. Kyle’s father, Howard Strube, died in the line of duty while serving the Canton Fire Department in Illinois.

Jennifer Tanner, of Montana, is working towards completing a degree in nursing from Montana State University. She is currently employed as a full time RN in the ICU and volunteers in her community. Jennifer’s husband, Robert Michael Tanner, Jr., died in the line of duty while serving the Ohio Sheriff’s Office.

Jenny Van Handel, of Wisconsin, plans to continue her education and obtain a master’s degree in aviation safety. Jenny volunteers with the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), and serves as a liaison between the EAA and some of the largest contributors for the largest airshow in the world. Jenny’s husband, Heath Van Handel, died in the line of duty while serving the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
